PRIVATE PILATES SESSIONS

Attendees are taken on a journey of core movement sequencing and breath work. The intention is to move into new territory; to help individuals refine awareness, boost proprioception, enhance coordination, build strength, gain balance, foster flexibility and healthy range of motion, forge connections in both body and mind, and ultimately improve physical and mental well being.

Private Pilates sessions are 55 minutes in length.

Goals can include anything one aims to achieve. Goals will be discussed during initial consultation. Dissecting issues such as chronic pain, deficiency of strength and/or mobility, imbalance, lack of awareness, and the desire for rehabilitation are common themes. Encouragement of proper anatomical alignment and integrity is of utmost importance.

THE PILATES METHOD

The PILATES method was developed over a hundred years ago by Joseph H. Pilates to help individuals foster a healthy body, a healthy mind, and a healthy life. Pilates is a full-body system of specific sequenced exercises performed on the mat and specially designed equipment. The goal is to reawaken the body through movement and the mind through conscious thought.  Pilates can change the way you relate to your own body in conjunction with the world around you. Concentration, Control, Center, Fluidity, Precision, and Breath are the six foundational principles of all Pilates exercises. Matwork supports the reality that the body is the finest and only tool necessary for reaching physical fitness goals.  The “Art of Contrology” is the original movement system that Joseph Pilates created and it can be performed anywhere a normal human body can fit comfortable when stretched out at full length.

This special practice develops the body uniformly, strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, promotes flexibility and balance, restores physical vitality, increases energy levels, invigorates and focuses the mind, elevates the spirit, boosts functional physicality, increases endurance, reduces stress, and improves circulation. With an emphatic focus on muscle elongation, the body is able to venture towards longer, leaner muscle tone and a sculpted appearance. After only a few sessions it is likely to notice various shifts taking place in both the body and the mind. It is common to tune in to a heightened body awareness and begin to unveil an inner power.

PROGRESSING BALLET TECHNIQUE

“Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving their personal best in classical ballet.

Marie has been known for her creative teaching skills for almost 4 decades and has trained many professional dancers and teachers’ worldwide. She has experimented with outstanding success the use of muscle memory to improve students understanding of core stability, weight placement and alignment for many decades.

It is difficult for students to feel what muscles initiate the correct alignment in ballet training, however, as the fit ball is continually mobile under the students’ body, it gives the students a sense of posture and weight –placement whilst feeling each correct muscle group.

Each exercise has been developed with care and guidance with a team of physiotherapists.”
